Surrey Will Burst Into Color for the Vaisakhi Festival 2017

temple-pic2017Cultural festivals celebrate what Canada is all about – our diversity and heritage! One of BC’s biggest festivals, the Surrey Vaisakhi Festival, is almost here. From Thursday April 13th to Sunday April 23rd, the energy and joy of the 2017 Dasmesh Gurdwara Vaisakhi celebrations will have you smiling from ear to ear!

The crowning jewel of this year’s event will be the Vaisakhi Day Parade on Saturday April 22nd. Surrey will be bathed in colour and alive with music and revelry as it celebrates the best of Sikh culture.

Of course, Shooting Star Amusements will be a huge part of the festivities, adding to the excitement with our exhilarating midway rides and games.

What Exactly Does the Vaisakhi Festival Celebrate?

This is a huge event for Sikh communities all over the world, commemorating the formation of the Khalsa army, the heroic faction that gave nationhood to the Sikhs. It also marks the Hindu Solar New Year and observes the ancient spring harvest ritual.

Can We Break Last Year’s RECORD Crowds?

The Vaisakhi Festival in Surrey is one of the largest you’ll find outside India. Last year broke records with over 350,000 people taking part in the Khalsa Day Parade alone! Check out this great video – shot from a drone – of only a portion of the colourful throng!

The Parade is AWESOME

The Khalsa Day Parade begins at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday April 22nd at the Gurdwara Sahib Dasmesh Darbar Temple at 12885 85 Avenue. You can check out the entire parade route here and think about your vantage spot as well as traffic issues, road closures, and such. We highly recommend using transit. The procession will go along 128th street, head west at the BC Hydro Railway line, down 124th street, and then back to the Temple. Expect to eat free food, such as Pakora (image below), to your heart’s content along this route and be entertained with live performances, music and colorful floats.
