July and August Summer Carnival Fun in BC to Keep You Entertained

summer carnivals bcSummer in BC means carnivals and midways are everywhere for you to enjoy. While you might think Greater Vancouver is the hotbed for summer carnivals in BC, the entire province is electric this time of year. Forget the crazy crowds and painful parking at the PNE. Head to some of these amazing events in Summer 2016.

Cariboo District – Billy Barker Days in Quesnel

Step back in time to the Gold Rush days! From July 14-17, Billy Barker Days will light up Quesnel, celebrating the happy community and BC’s rich mining history.

Aside from Shooting Star’s awesome midway rides and games, we also have great wristband specials for all-day rides. There will be 1800s costume rentals, the incredible Quesnel Rodeo, live music, a demolition derby, a parade, motocross, the big Saturday night fireworks display, and much more.  Head for the Quesnel Museum on Carson Avenue and you can’t miss it.

Lower Mainland – Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows Country Fest

115 years is nothing short of remarkable for any event to run. In all that time, the heart of the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows Country Fest has remained consistent: to promote the importance of agriculture in our daily lives.

On July 23 and 24, this year’s Country Fest is designed to celebrate the importance and harmony of urban and rural living. There will be two stages with a big lineup of acts.  Come enjoy attractions like the barnyard, the dairy display, the sheep dog and duck show, horse shows, arts, crafts, even Ridge Meadows’ Got Talent. Of course, there will be the midway with those thrilling rides, hilarious games, and trucks and trucks of BC’s favourite summer carnival foods. The venue is the Albion Fairgrounds and there will be great wristband deals to save you plenty on rides.

Fraser Valley – Abbotsford Agrifair

Since 1911, Abbotsford’s Agrifair has more than lived up to its title of ‘the best little country fair on earth’.

With agriculture at the centre, this event has something for the whole family, young and old. There will be petting zoos, live performances out the wazoo, tonnes of delectable delights, go-karts, demolition derby, wrestling, motocross and, of course, the best rides and midway fun found this side of the Rockies. It’s all happening at Abbotsford Exhibition Park and parking will be easy and cheap, unlike the PNE!

Okanagan Valley – Penticton Peach Festival

summer carnivals bcOver 6 days, from August 2-7, Penticton grows even more in stature as the jewel of BC’s summer life. Peaches are sweet, vibrant and very seasonal – and their picking signals the time for the Penticton Peach Festival.

This 5-day event takes place August 3-7 and it’s 69th anniversary promises to be the best year yet. The main stage at Okanagan Lake Park will host a staggering lineup of live performers. Shooting Star is setting up the midway in adjacent Rotary Park and there will be outstanding wristband riding specials on each day of the festival. Throw in cooking competitions, canoe races, a film festival, peach bin races and, of course, peaches… it’s AWESOME!

Vancouver Island Exhibition

VIEX 2016 is shaping up to be one of the most diverse and exciting events of BC’s entire summer. Enjoy the spectacular ferry ride to Nanaimo and then head to Beban Park on Rowan Road for the VIEx running from August 19-21. Enjoy haunted houses, cooking competitions, lumberjack competitions, mad science, dog shows, wrestling, remote control cars… it truly has something for everyone.
