Things to Do in British Columbia in Spring 2015

Spring is here in BC! There are so many things to do in British Columbia in Spring 2015!

Fairs and carnivals are back! Shooting Star Amusements will be at many of them this season.

Shooting Star is an award-winning midway company that has been operating throughout BC for many years. We provide fantastic carnival fun for the whole family with great rides and games, including the Zero Gravity, the Spider, Kamikaze, the Merry-Go-Round, and the Bumper Cars, For the kids we have the Space Train and Go-Gator Coaster and so much more!  We have games for the kids like the Water Guns, Balloon Popping, Gator Fishing and the Tubs of Fun and more!

Vaisakhi  (Friday April 10th to Sunday April 19th)

Vaisakhi marks the New Year for Sikhs around the world. One of the largest Vaisakhi celebrations outside of  India takes place every April in Surrey, BC.

A highlight of the festival is a parade through the streets of Surrey when participants pay tribute to the spring harvest. As part of this tradition, many local residents and businesses offer free food and drink to all those attending.

People of all races and cultures are very welcome.

The festival will include floats, performers, live music and, of course, carnival rides and games.

Rutland May Days (Friday May 15th to Sunday May 17th)

Head to Kelowna before the summer season and visit the Rutland May Days fair on the Long Weekend in May!  This will be Shooting Star’s first time at Rutland May Days and we can’t wait! This fair has entertainment for the whole family. There is kid’s entertainment and free live performances by Bluegrass and Country/Classic Rock bands.

Situated by the beautiful Okanagan Lake, Kelowna is a gem. Explore the lake while you’re there. Many operators rent out power boats, jet skis and kayaks. Some even offer ski and wakeboard lessons. Alternatively, go sailing or take a sunset dinner cruise. Kelowna is renowned for great food, wine, golf, hiking and biking.

Oak Bay Tea Party (Friday June 5th to Sunday June 7th)

Oak Bay is situated on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. The Oak Bay Tea Party was first held in 1963 and was so successful that is has been an annual event ever since.

During the Tea Party Festival, events take place on the water, on the beach and in the park, with plenty of entertainment lined up for kids. You don’t want to miss the famous Tea Cup Bathtub Races when people come from all over BC to watch the challenger’s race in the crazy Giant Tea Cups, using only the most peculiar oars to move their vessels. Stick around and enjoy the incredible Air Show too!

Shooting Star will be there for the duration of the Tea Party Festivities.  We are even opening a day early for Unlimited Rides on Friday night for only $25!

Lumby Days (Friday June 12th to Sunday June 14th)

4The small community of Lumby is built around logging, manufacturing and agricultural activities. Lumby Days is an annual fair that really brings the local people together. You and your family are guaranteed to have loads of fun with this warm and welcoming community.

Shooting Star will provide a full midway with big rides, games and concession stalls. We are selling wristbands for rides from open to close at $35 on Friday and Saturday and only $33 on Sunday.

The village of Lumby is located in the northeast corner of the Okanagan Valley. Surrounded by mountains, this beautiful setting is popular for hiking, hang gliding and paragliding. Many trails through the area also ideal for horseback riding and mountain biking. The Shuswap River and the mountain lakes provide venues for swimming, tubing, canoeing and kayaking. Trout fishing is very popular in the numerous creeks and streams.
