Summer is here and Vancouver’s festival season has arrived with it! With kids out of school for the summer soon, many parents are looking for good places to spend their days off and enjoy quality time with their kids.

There are tons of family friendly events happening around Vancouver this summer and the season kicks off spectacularly with the Point Grey Fiesta and then Canada Day Celebrations in the City of Surrey. Shooting Star Amusements will be there offering some of the best entertainment around, from fantastic carnival rides to an amazing, energetic midway. Grab the kids of all ages and head out to these first events of the season.

The Point Grey Fiesta

The annual Point Grey Fiesta runs from June 19 to 21 in Trimble Park, at Trimble and West 8th Avenue in Vancouver. There will be a wide range of entertainment – fun for the kids, live music, shows, and a huge silent auction. Get to Point Grey Village on Saturday morning for the pancake breakfast. Be sure to check the times that the midway opens and get your wristbands for great deals on all-day rides.

But it wouldn’t be the Fiesta without…

·         The Fiesta Parade. It starts on Saturday at 10 am, right after the pancake breakfast. Be lined up early to get a good spot! Here’s your map and schedule info that you’ll need.
·         Just for Dad’s Sunday. Sunday June 21 is Fathers Day! Dads who show up that day with their children and pay for their children’s rides can ride free! The midway opens at noon, so there’s plenty of time for Dad to sleep in and have breakfast in bed. It closes at 5pm, leaving plenty of time for a great dinner.  What a great opportunity for a unique gift!

Surrey’s Canada Day Celebration

July 1st features the best family friendly Canada Day event in the Vancouver area! Come on down to the Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre Park (next to the Cloverdale Showgrounds) and spend the most patriotic day of the year interacting with the community and supporting local Canadian businesses. While you support the economy and show your Canadian pride, kids can play with their friends, hopping on and off the rides. The midway is open from 10am to 10:15pm.

·         Come for the Rides, Stay for the Show! The celebrations have a great lineup of entertainment this year, from kids entertainment in the morning, to the opening ceremonies in the afternoon, to live musical performances at night that will include a Tragically Hip tribute band as well as Blue Rodeo themselves.
·         Bring on the Fireworks. Surrey’s Annual Fireworks Spectacular will light up the sky to cap off the patriotic celebrations at the end of the day! Get a comfy spot in the Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre, looking above the Chevron Mainstage.
