trail-silver-days 2017Canadians are known for being kind, inclusive, family-oriented and, most of all, fun. As spring takes hold at last for 2017, there’s an event in British Columbia that encompasses all of these great qualities: Trail Silver City Days!

If you’re needing to get out and about this spring, Trail is the jewel of the Kootenays and in May it will be the Fun Capital of BC. All of us in the Shooting Star family are super excited to kick off the 2017 carnival season by returning to Trail where we had an absolute blast only a year ago.

Trail Silver City Days 2017 will take place from May 10th to 14th and is gearing up to be the best yet. The theme this year is ‘A Homecoming Celebration’ and we’ll certainly feel like we’re coming home – bringing our midway with us! Read More »

Celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday at “the Best Little Country Fair on Earth”

abbotsford agrifairThe 2017 BC summer carnival schedule is already heating up with Shooting Star Amusements announcing it will return to the Abbotsford Agrifair.

“We have a bumper 2017 ahead, destined to be our best year yet,” said Brenda Medeiros, co-owner of Shooting Star since 2002. “2016 was our inaugural appearance at Agrifair and it was such a smash success, they’ve immediately signed us on again for more.”

July next year marks Canada’s 150th centenary year and the celebrations of pride will continue throughout the entire month, including at Agrifair in the heart of BC’s amazing Fraser Valley.

Agrifair 2016 Was a Smash!

“Our goal was to create an event our community would want to come and see, and they came!” said a delighted Ernie Silveri, President of Agrifair.

Forget the rumours and get the facts. The fairgrounds were 100% untouched by the big Rock Creek fires this summer. Therefore the 2015 Rock Creek Fall Fair is going ahead. This year it is doubly important for the community, and for those who lost their homes, that everybody turn up and show their support!

So, be there! Saturday September 19th and Sunday September 20th at the Rock Creek Fairgrounds on Kettle River Road E.

Bring Your Smiles

Shooting Star Amusements will be there with its exciting midway. We always love to see miles and miles of smiles. This year, it is more important than ever. After Rock Creek was hit so hard by the devastating fires, the 2015 fall fair is all about for bringing smiles back to people’s faces.  Read More »

Our Carnival Company has a long History in BC, and things always come full circle it seems. We started in the Carnival business in the mid 1970’s when Playland (PNE) was owned by a Company called Burrard Amusements. We later traveled with West Coast Amusements and started an Amusement Game Company called JBM Enterprises.

Several years later we joined Castle Amusements with our Game Company and later purchased five Amusement Rides. When the Watson’s wanted to retire we had the opportunity to buy their Carnival Company entirely – Now this was scary…and a real leap of faith.

While we were working at the PNE with our Amusement Games we had the great pleasure to meet Howard Hoss of S & H Concessions. I became very fond of Howard, he was a true Showman. We would meet for Tea each night during the PNE, and talk about the Business, share laughs and jokes.

One day while walking down the Midway at the PNE, I told Howard we had the opportunity to buy a Carnival – the whole Carnival! I told him we were pretty scared to take such a huge step, we would have to leave our full time jobs and take the risk. Howard said to me, “Brenda, opportunities like this only come along once in a lifetime, you should take it”. We have never looked back since! Thanks Howard!
